Origin of the name Pearlie Blue Leaf

"The name Pearlie Blue comes from the song "Down The Road" by bluegrass artist Flat and Scruggs which is about a little brown haired girl named Pearlie Blue who charms everyone she comes across. My parents went to hear them play at the Abita Springs Opry long before I was born and decided that if they ever were to have a little girl they'd name her Pearlie Blue. It just so happened to work perfectly with my family name Leaf!"

About

Pearlie has been involved in the arts since she was a child having studied visual art, violin, dance, acting, and voice since the age of five. She was fortunate enough to attend Lusher Charter High School and complete a Certificate of Artistry in Musical Theatre upon graduation. During her high school years Pearlie furthered her education outside of school by taking dance classes with the New Orleans Ballet Association and classical voice lessons with Betsy Uschkrat (Miss Indiana 2007). Pearlie also had the opportunity to Perform at a Broadway Conference alongside one of the original Matildas from Matilda the Musical as well as participate in professional dance workshops with Ronald K. Brown and Complexions through Tulane University.

During her time at Illinois Wesleyan University, Pearlie developed her skills as an actor through studying the techniques of Uta Hagen and Stanislavski, Shakespeare, on camera acting, and the Alba method as well as performing in many mainstage and lab shows. While there she also discovered a passion for stage dialects. She has done dialect coaching for multiple shows at IWU giving her hands on experience with Standard RP British, Cockney, Irish, New York, American Southern, and Russian. She was also introduced to the world of costumes and makeup through working in IWU's costume shop and makeup designing IWU's production of The Life and Cendrillion. Pearlie has developed her skills as a dancer/choreographer by choreographing a musical theatre piece to open the New Orleans Ballet Association's Adventures in Dance Camp showcase, two tap numbers for IWU's dance company Cohesion, tap snippets for IWU's Stage Door, and Yearning, an original contemporary piece coming soon.

When she's not performing, Pearlie enjoys baking, playing the ukulele, arranging a capella music, crocheting, embroidery, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and crafting looks from previous decades out of her ever growing collection of vintage clothing!
